MDS Nordion in the Community

We support many organizations and events, both in Ottawa and abroad.

Every year in May, thousands of people take part in the premier sporting and fundraising event in the Nation’s Capital – the Ottawa Race Weekend. MDS Nordion is the proud sponsor of Saturday’s events, the MDS Nordion 10K and 5K.

The MDS Nordion 10K Run is ranked by top runners as one of the most important races in Canada. Hundreds of MDS Nordion employees take part by walking, running, fundraising or volunteering.

Over the years during the Ottawa Race Weekend, thousands of people make a difference in the lives of those suffering from cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s or stroke by raising money for The Ottawa Hospital. Through the MDS Nordion/Ottawa Hospital Fundraising Challenge fundraisers have raised over $4.5 million and made a measurable contribution to improving the facilities and supporting groundbreaking research that will change lives and make the Ottawa community better.

We believe that one day can make a difference. To celebrate the United Nation’s Year of the Volunteer in 2001, the company instituted a program in Canada to encourage voluntarism. Our program gives employees the opportunity to take one paid day per year to perform a community service. Employees may choose to spend this time by assisting a favourite charity or participating in a community-improvement initiative.
